The VP of Data Science will lead Premise's data science function, driving the development and deployment of advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI capabilities that create measurable enterprise value. This leader will develop and execute the functional strategy for data science, partnering closely with Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, and Analytic Products & Business Analytics to ensure data science solutions are built on high-quality data assets and effectively integrated into business processes. The VP of Data Science will build and scale a high-performing team of data scientists, establish standards and best practices for model development and deployment, and identify opportunities where predictive and prescriptive analytics can differentiate Premise in the market. This role requires a leader who can analyze market trends in Data Science capabilities, set strategic goals for the function, and translate complex technical capabilities into business impact for executive stakeholders. 


This is a Full Time, hybrid Data Science Vice President role located in Brentwood, TN.


What You'll Do

  • Develop functional strategy for data science aligned with enterprise objectives and market opportunities 
  • Oversee the execution of strategy across the data science department, ensuring alignment with organizational goals 
  • Analyze broader market trends in AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics to inform strategic direction and capability investments 
  • Define a 3-5 year roadmap for data science capabilities that anticipates business needs and technology evolution 
  • Identify and prioritize high-value use cases where data science can drive clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, and competitive differentiation 
  • Allocate resources across teams and initiatives to maximize business impact and ROI 
  • Lead the development of predictive and prescriptive analytics solutions across clinical, operational, financial, and commercial domains 
  • Establish the technical architecture and standards for model development, training, validation, and deployment 
  • Oversee the implementation of MLOps practices to ensure models are production-ready, monitored, and maintained 
  • Drive innovation in AI and machine learning applications, evaluating emerging technologies for applicability to Premise's business 
  • Ensure data science solutions are explainable, ethical, and aligned with healthcare regulatory requirements 
  • Collaborate with Analytics Engineering to define data requirements and ensure silver layer assets support data science use cases 
  • Partner with Data Engineering to access bronze layer data and establish feature engineering pipelines 
  • Work with Analytic Products & Business Analytics to integrate data science outputs into dashboards, reports, and decision-support tools 
  • Align with Clinical, Operations, and Commercial teams to understand business problems and translate them into data science opportunities 
  • Navigate the matrixed organizational structure to ensure data science delivers value across all business domains 
  • Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing team of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and AI specialists 
  • Establish clear success metrics and accountability frameworks for the team 
  • Foster a culture of scientific rigor, innovation, and continuous learning 
  • Develop career pathways that grow technical depth in machine learning, statistical modeling, and AI 
  • Partner with HR and recruiting to attract top data science talent and build a diverse, inclusive team 
  • Develop policies, standards, and best practices for data science across the organization 
  • Establish model governance frameworks including documentation, validation, bias detection, and performance monitoring 
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, reference architectures, and reusable code libraries 
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare data privacy regulations and ethical AI principles 
  • Serve as the domain subject matter expert for data science, translating complex technical concepts for executive and non-technical audiences 
  • Regularly present work and strategic recommendations to executive leadership 
  • Build trusted advisor relationships with stakeholders across the enterprise 
  • Communicate the business value and ROI of data science initiatives to secure continued investment 
  • May function as proxy to executive leader on data science subject matter 
  • Maintain full accountability for the data science department's budget and resource allocation 
  • Balance strategic vision with operational realities to meet stakeholder expectations and delivery commitments 
  • Establish and track delivery metrics to ensure consistent, high-quality output 
  • Manage vendor relationships and external partnerships related to data science tools and platforms 


What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related quantitative field strongly preferred 
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in data science, machine learning, advanced analytics, or related fields, with at least 7 years in senior leadership roles 
  • Deep expertise in machine learning, statistical modeling, and AI techniques with hands-on experience deploying models in production environments 
  • Strong experience with modern data science tools and platforms (Python, R, Databricks, MLflow, or similar) 
  • Proven experience leading large technical teams in a matrixed organizational structure 
  • Demonstrated success developing functional strategy and overseeing departmental execution 
  • Track record of delivering data science solutions that drive measurable business value 
  • Track record of regularly presenting strategic recommendations to executive leadership 
  • Healthcare industry experience strongly preferred
