The Payroll Tax Analyst is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements. This role manages payroll tax filings, payments, reconciliations, and agency correspondence, and serves as a subject matter expert for payroll tax matters. The Payroll Tax Analyst partners closely with Payroll, HR, Finance, and external vendors to ensure compliance, resolve discrepancies, and support audits and process improvements.


This is a Full Time, remote, Senior Tax Analyst role.


What You'll Do

  • Ensure timely and accurate processing, filing, and payment of all payroll taxes in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Prepare, review, and file payroll tax returns and year-end forms, including but not limited to Forms 941, 940, W 2, W 2c, and applicable state and local filings.
  • Reconcile payroll tax liabilities to general ledger and payroll reports; research and resolve discrepancies.
  • Manage payroll tax account setup, maintenance, and updates with taxing authorities, including registrations, rate changes, and account closures.
  • Serve as primary contact for payroll tax inquiries from internal partners, tax agencies, and third party vendors; resolve notices, audits, and penalties.
  • Monitor changes in payroll tax laws and regulations; assess impact and partner with Payroll and HRIS teams to implement updates.
  • Support payroll tax audits and internal reviews by providing documentation, analysis, and explanations as requested.
  • Collaborate with Payroll, HR, Finance, and external vendors to ensure accurate taxation of wages, benefits, garnishments, and leave programs.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, standardization, and automation related to payroll tax operations.
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and standard operating procedures related to payroll tax processes.


What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in payroll tax, payroll accounting, or a related function.
  • Multi state payroll tax experience strongly preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience working with payroll systems and third party tax vendors (e.g., ADP, UKG, or similar platforms).
  • Excellent analytical and reconciliation skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to research complex payroll tax issues and clearly communicate findings and resolutions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

Premise provides its reasonable and genuinely expected range of compensation for this job of $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 annually. A number of factors will influence the rate offered for this position, including your experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other factors. 


For individuals living in Washington or Colorado: Premise offers the following paid time off benefits. Employees will earn 0.0692 hours of paid time off per actual hours worked or based on standard schedule, per pay period, and will receive 10 paid holidays or an equivalent bank of hours aligned to schedule throughout the calendar year. Paid sick leave is satisfied by the paid time off accrual, detailed above.
