As a Full Time Senior Health Information Coordinator, you'll provide care to client employees in our Health Center located in Orlando, FL.
What You'll Do
- Acts as a liaison between patients, providers, office staff, and outside facilities regarding medical records, disability insurance, and patient paperwork.
- Prepares, distributes, tracks, and processes all clinical forms and ensures timely completion and regulatory compliance.
- Maintains detailed and up to date logs of all paperwork and records handled by the HIM Department and audits logs regularly to ensure timely turn around.
- Assists HIM team with questions and escalations
- Meets with HIM Team members regularly to discuss questions or problems with workflows
- Answers questions regarding Medical Leave of Absence, Work Restrictions, Disability, FMLA and other patient forms.
- Maintains up to date understanding of Federal, State and Client guidelines regarding HIPAA, Medical Leave of Absence, Work Restriction, Disability, FMLA and other patient forms.
- Trains staff on appropriate use of above related items.
- Assists patient in navigating the complexities of the leave of absence and disability process.
- Investigates and troubleshoots any problems or inquiries regarding patient forms, restrictions, or release of information by thoroughly searching patient charts for relevant documentation.
- Trains staff on the adherence of privacy policies and procedures regarding the safe use and handling of protected health information (PHI) in compliance with federal and state HIPAA regulation.
- Reviews all records requests to ensure HIPAA compliance and determine appropriate records for release.
- Processes all incoming and outgoing medical records requests in a timely manner.
- Receives, reviews and processes all subpoena and legal requests for records.
- Manages the scheduling of legal depositions for clinic Providers.
- Assists Medical Directors in completing Mortality Reviews and Death Certificates for deceased patients.
- Utilizes vendor partner EMR systems to access, review and pull necessary primary care patient records for hospital follow up appointments.
- Reviews all incoming and outgoing medical faxes and appropriately uploads to patient chart or distributes to appropriate staff.
- Cross trained to assist with referrals and close the loop when necessary.
- Subject matter expert willing to train/mentor health information coordinators as needed
- All other duties as assigned
What You'll Bring
- High School Diploma required, Associate Degree preferred
- 3+ years experience in Health Information Management
